What is MIT Metaverse?

Metaverse is a digital space represented by digital representations of people, places, and things. In other words, it’s a “digital world” with real people represented by digital objects. In many senses, metaverse serves as a larger environment for "bringing people together.“ It is the next step in the growth of social connectedness. Our company's aim is to help bring the metaverse to life, therefore we're changing our name to reflect our dedication to this future.

The metaverse will be a social place

3D environments in the metaverse will allow you to socialize, study, cooperate, and play in ways we can’t even imagine.

We’re already working on innovative new technologies to enable people interact and explore the metaverse.

Virtual Reality

Augmented Reality

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality allows you to immerse yourself in new worlds and shared experiences. Even if you live far apart, you may share new experiences with friends and family with Quest.

Augmented Reality

AR enhances shared experiences with entertaining virtual effects at the swipe of a screen via photo and video, allowing you to express yourself with the people that matter most.

We intend to go beyond online education by developing a “metaverse” that improves in the management of classes and produces an immersive learning experience that embraces the whole range of campus activities while utilizing cutting-edge digital technology.

Immersive Education

MIT Learning Management System (LMS) aspires to provide browser-based virtual 3D environments and global collaboration spaces for all types of communication.

So, what exactly is the metaverse?

In a nutshell, it’s about engaging in shared virtual places, which can take the form of 3D environments or immersive VR. It’s worth mentioning that one of the most essential aspects of the metaverse is the emphasis on active engagement in experiences, which makes it ideal for education and learning.
